Household safety –Typhoon Emergency Precautions Although typhoons may be devastating, you can protect the safety of your family the damages of typhoon by following the preparations below.
1.Before a typhoon strikes, call “166 or 167” for recorded weather broadcasts, or stay alert on the movement of the typhoon by listening to radio or TV news, and be well prepared. 2.If you on a hiking or camping trip, return home as early as possible and inform school and family about your trip and route by phone, for emergencies call 119 or the emergency helpline 112; hiking and camping trip planned should be canceled before departure. 3.If the place where you live is lower, and at a high risk of floods, move to higher ground as soon as possible. 4.If you live on a hillside or place vulnerable to debris flow, leave the area as soon as you can. (If you have no friends or relatives to stay with, you can stay at emergency shelters). 5.Those who live in the coastal communities should pay attention to tides, watch out for storm surges. 6.Candles, flashlights, batteries and mobile phone batteries should be readily available in case there is electrical cut and for seeking help. 7.Check the doors and windows are in reliable condition; close all unneeded doors and windows; nail planks if necessary. 8.Take down all the hanging objects from outside of houses and in gardens (secure signboards) to prevent blown off by wind and cause injuries. 9.Trees in the garden should be supported with sticks, and trim branches to prevent injuring people or falling on buildings or cars. 10.Ensure that all water drains are clean to avoid clogged drainage systems that can cause flooding. 11.Store enough food for a few days 12.Store enough water for a few days, or water and power connections might also stop. 13.Remove anything that needs to be protected from rain to suitable places 14.Never go to the river to work, in case trapped by floods, and also never go to seashore and rivers to play, pick stones, fishing to prevent accidents. 15.If you live in the countryside, other than the items above, check the cow shed, pig shed, hen houses to prevent any looses, or relocate the animals to a safer area.
